alcohol dependence

Alcohol dependence occurs after a period of alcohol abuse and takes that abuse to the next stage of addiction. With alcohol dependence there is an increase in tolerance, meaning you need more drinks to get the same effect you once had from just one or two drinks. This tolerance tends to increase over time, but may stabilize at some point during alcohol dependency. An alcohol-dependent person will often try to stop but cannot for any extended period of time. They may try to control they drink, but find after they have one or two drinks, they no longer have control and end up drunk again. Alcohol dependence is the stage after alcohol abuse in the continuum of alcohol use disorders.
